At the California Academy of Sciences we lucked out. Ever since the new facility opened last year, it's been unbearably crowded. Fortunately, we happened to go on Superbowl Sunday and the crowds were dramatically reduced. Not only that, but the Giant Pacific Octopus put on an amazing show for a good 30 minutes or so. The other times we've visited he's always been hiding away behind a rock. William was thrilled, of course, to see such tentacular splendor. Unfortunately, cephalopods are very sensitive to light, so the tank was kept very dark and made photography almost impossible.
