Elephant Seals at Ano Nuevo State Reserve

Recently the fifth grade at William's school went on a field trip to Ano Nuevo State Reserve, site of the largest breeding ground of northern elephant seals in the world. The beach is about 90 minutes south of San Rafael. Small groups of students/teachers/parents were led by guides to the beach where we were allowed to get quite close to the seals. One group even witnessed the birth of a pup! The males were gigantic lumbering beasts, but could move quite quickly when they wanted to so we were advised to keep at least 20 feet away from them.
